What is Gua Sha?

Gua Sha pronounced ‘gwashah’ is an ancient Chinese tool, part of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and means to scrape. We like to use our Gua Sha to comb, stimulate circulation, massage and release tension. It is a therapeutic tool to bring heat to the treated area and improve blood flow.

The Gua Sha technique dates back to The Warring States Period 475-222 BCE in Ancient China known for its many benefits. Traditionally made from Buffalo Horn, today you can easily find in made of Jade, Obsidin, Rose Quartz and Stainless Steel.

Why is Gua Sha important?
Gua Sha has become very popular the last few years for its instant anti-aging results and therapeutic benefits. Gua Sha quickly lifts and sculpts the face, stimulates lymphatic drainage and firms skin.

Gua Sha Benefits:

  • stimulates circulation
  • increases product absorption
  • reduces puffiness, fine lines and dark circles
  • assists in lymphatic drainage
  • helps swelling during pregnancy and postpartum
  • helps sinus pressure
  • eases tension, headaches and migraines
  • helps fatigue, anxiety, and insomnia

Why Stainless Steel?

Our desire to stay connected to ancient practices with a modern approach led us to honing in on Stainless Steel, a naturally cooling, clean, and sustainable alternative. We knew we wanted a tool that was large, multi-purposed and had weight to it (our Gua Sha is 1/2 a lb). We tried shape after shape and when we felt this one, the experience we had was unparalleled and knew it was the one. Our Gua Sha Sculpting Tool has two sides that are a comb, two arched edges, two flat edges and one round edge that allows you to work with the tool on your entire body. Our Stainless Steel Gua can be used on your face, neck, chest, arms, legs, abdomen (for digestion and relieving cramps), back, hands, feet, and scalp.

One of the many benefits of Stainless Steel is it holds temperature for a long duration of time compared to stone. Place the Gua Sha in the freezer, refridgator or a bowl of ice to keep it extra cold. To heat the Gua Sha, run it under warm water to soften skin and release tension.

How to use the Gua Sha:

Face: Your facial muscles start at your neck. We recommend you start there, gliding your Gua Sha up and down your neck with light pressure. Move upward and down. After your neck, move to your jawline, cheeks, eyes and ending on your forehead into the hairline. Glide the Gua Sha from in to out. Use long uninterrupted strokes. Repeat areas of concern, ie. puffiness around eyes or jawline.

Body: Start at your feet, move up your body towards your heart. When stimulating lymphatic drainage you always want to make sure you are moving in upwards motions with light pressure.

Hands: Glide back and forth in a quick motion to release tension and soothe tired hands.

Legs: Start at your feet glide back and forth in long strokes.

Care and Packaging:

We strive to create products and packaging with purpose. It was very important to use to give you a Gua Sha that would be durable, clean and sustainable. Most Gua Shas come in a fitted throw away box. We wanted you to reuse the packaging and provide a cloth to wipe dry.

Packaging: We are committed to finding the best and most sustainable packaging. Our Gua Sha comes with a 100% organic flannel cloth to wipe clean and a 100% organic cotton drawstring pouch.

Care: Rinse with lukewarm water and mild soap after each use, wipe dry with cloth and slide into pouch.
